Evelyn Couch is having trouble in her marriage and is frustrated because of her obesity, and no one seems to take her seriously. While in a nursing home visiting her husband's aunt, she meets Ninny Threadgoode, an outgoing old woman who tells her the story of two young women in 1920's Alabama, and the tale gets more fascinating every time.
